Frequently asked questions

Answers before you ask

Real questions from homeowners across Stockport and Greater Manchester. If yours is not here, call us on 07762 563553 and we will talk it through.

Installation

How long does a typical hardwood installation take?+

Most rooms take two to four days from start to finish. Larger homes or complex patterns like herringbone can take a week or more. We give you a firm timeline in your written quote before work begins.

Do you remove and dispose of old flooring?+

Yes. We lift and clear carpet, tile, laminate, and existing wood, and we haul everything away. Disposal is included in your quote so there are no surprise charges.

Should I leave home during installation?+

You can stay, but it gets noisy and dusty. Many clients pop out during the noisiest stages. We seal off the work area and protect your furniture either way.

Can you install over underfloor heating?+

Yes, with the right species and width. We use engineered boards or stable solid woods rated for heated subfloors, and we advise on board width to prevent movement.

Refinishing and repairs

How often should wood floors be refinished?+

A well kept solid hardwood floor usually needs refinishing every ten to fifteen years. High traffic homes may need it sooner. We can assess yours for free and tell you whether a recoat will do instead of a full sand.

Is refinishing really as dusty as people say?+

Not with us. We use dust containment sanding equipment that captures the vast majority of dust at the machine. There is still some cleanup, but nothing like the old days.

Can you match an existing floor if I extend a room?+

Usually yes. We source the same species, grade, and width, and we feather the finish in so the new boards blend with the old. A perfect match is not always possible, but we get very close.

Will you repair pet or water damage?+

Yes. We replace boards affected by pet stains, water, gouges, or fire, then sand and finish so the repair disappears. Small repairs can often be done in a day.

Timelines, pricing and warranty

How soon can you start after I accept a quote?+

Usually within two to four weeks depending on the season. We always agree the start date in writing before you pay a deposit.

Is there a deposit, and is it refundable?+

A 30% deposit secures your slot and orders materials. Cancellation rights and deposit retention are set out in our Refund and Cancellation Policy.

What warranty comes with the work?+

Our installation carries a five year workmanship warranty against lifting, gapping, and finish failure caused by the install. Material warranties come from the manufacturer. Full details are in our Terms and Conditions.

Are you insured?+

Yes. We are licensed, bonded, and fully insured, including public liability cover. Details are on your quote and in our Terms and Conditions.

Caring for your floor

How do I clean a newly finished floor?+

Wait the full cure time we give you, usually around two weeks, before wet mopping. In the meantime, sweep or vacuum with a soft brush and damp wipe spills. We leave you a written care guide on completion.

Are hardwood floors safe with pets?+

Yes, with sensible care. Trim claws, wipe muddy paws, and put felt pads under furniture. Choose a harder species or a hand scraped finish if you have large dogs, as it hides marks better.

Will the colour change over time?+

Most woods mellow and deepen with light. Cherry and walnut darken, some oaks lighten then settle. We can show you aged samples so you know what to expect.

What should I put under furniture and rugs?+

Felt pads on all chair and table legs, and breathable rug underlays, not rubber backed ones, which can discolour the finish. We supply pads with every install.
